Suara Acer 4736Z tidak putus-putus setelah instal VISTA

Pada postinga sebelumnya Acer 4736 suara putus-putus di tulis bahwa suara di Acer 4736Z putus-putus yang di duga dari windows XPnya atau dari Driver sound cardnya.

Terpaksa deh installan yang kemaren Windows XP aku hapus dan di install deh Windows Vista Home Premium, dan ternyata setelah semuanya selesai di test lah suranya. Eh tak terrduga memang suara yang diperoleh menjadi lebih bersih dan tidak putus-putus.

Praduga saya adalah :
  • Driver untuk XP bawaanya tidak suport sama versi Xpnya, meskipun driver bawaan dari Laptop Acer 4736Znya.
  • Atau memang Laptop Acer 4736Z ini hanya untuk Windows XP ke atas yaitu sejenis Windows Vista atau Windows 7.
Mending install pakai Windows Vista saja, karena itu tadi suara lebih jernih dan bersih serta suara tidak putus-putus.

Hanya permasalahan yang timbuk sekarang adalah webcamp tidak terdeteksi oleh Vista Home Premium ini.

Di installan sebelumnya di Windows XP gak masalah, Webcam Acer terdetek dengan sempurna, tetapi di Windows Vista Home Premium ini Webcam tidak terdeteksi. Apa ada yang tahu kenapa??

Seiring dengan maraknya Swine Flu (Flu Babi) yang menyerang manusia dan menurut WHO sudah pada taraf kegentingan 4, bandara di seluruh dunia langsung bersiaga memantau para penumpang dari Meksiko dan Amerika Serikat. Kalau di dunia komputer yang menjadi sumber penyebaran virus adalah file yang terinfeksi virus, maka di dunia nyata, yang terinfeksi virus dan menjadi sarana penyebaran virus adalah manusia. Karena itu bandara menerapkan scanning atas penumpang yang dicurigai mengidap flu dengan menggunakan scanner suhu tubuh karena pengidap flu (apapun jenisnya) pasti mengalami peningkatan suhu tubuh karena badannya bereaksi atas adanya virus asing yang masuk. Sebenarnya prinsip di dunia komputer juga sama, kalau bandara menggunakan scanner suhu tubuh maka ?bandara? di internet adalah router-router dan aplikasi yang digunakan bukan scanner tubuh manusia melainkan Firewall. Tetapi ada satu keunggulan yang dimiliki oleh dunia IT dibandingkan dunia manusia (jika dibandingkan) saat ini, dimana pada dunia manusia tidak mungkin (sangat sulit dan mahal) untuk dapat memantau seluruh manusia di satu kota dan menentukan siapa saja yang terinfeksi flu. Kalau di dunia IT kita bisa menggunakan scanner khusus untuk mendeteksi komputer mana saja yang terinfeksi virus sehingga dapat dilakukan antisipasi yang cepat dan efektif untuk menghadapi masalah virus.

Setelah melakukan test terhadap beberapa tools untuk membasmi Conficker, langkah berikutnya yang paling krusial jika anda administrator jaringan adalah mengidentifikasi komputer mana saja yang terinfeksi virus dan berusaha menyebarkan virus. Karena itu, Vaksincom melakukan pengetesan terhadap tools untuk mendeteksi komputer di jaringan yang terinfeksi Conficker dan berusaha melakukan penyebaran terhadap komputer dalam jaringan. Jika kita hanya melakukan pembersihan terhadap satu komputer saja tentu tidak masalah, tetapi bagaimana jika dalam jaringan anda terinfeksi komputer tetapi anda tidak tahu komputer mana yang terinfeksi, karena terkadang komputer yang menginfeksi jaringan kita tidak terduga-duga, misalnya komputer notebook yang sering dibawa pulang oleh pimpinan atau bagian yang sering dinas luar. Selain itu, jika kita memvonis komputer tertentu terinfeksi virus, tentunya kita harus memiliki bukti.

“Any sufficiently advanced memory card,” Arthur C. Clarke once didn’t write, “is indistinguishable from magic.”
But if he had written it, he could have been referring to the Eye-Fi Share card. It’s a 2-gigabyte memory card ($100), compatible with most digital cameras, with a twist: it has Wi-Fi networking built in. Each time you bring your camera home to your wireless network, it transmits your photos back to the computer, automatically and wirelessly. It can also upload them to Flickr, Picasa or another online photo-gallery site, automatically and wirelessly.

What’s the point? First, you’re saved the trouble of finding and attaching your U.S.B. transfer cable. Second, you skip the multi- step hassle of manually uploading the fresh pictures to a photo-sharing site.

Finally, there’s an enormous showoff factor, both for you and for the manufacturer. How on earth did they fit Wi-Fi circuitry into a regular-size SD card, which could hide behind a postage stamp?

In any case, this week, a new model arrives with an even more amazing trick up its sleeve.

You know how your digital camera gives every photo an invisible time and date stamp? Well, the Eye-Fi Explore ($130) card invisibly stamps every photo with where you took it.

That’s right: photo geotagging has finally come to a camera near you. Noting what photo was taken where used to require either tedious manual data entry or expensive add-on gear. Now it comes cheaply and automatically.

Once on your Mac or PC, each such photo shows the city and state where it was taken. You can also click to view either a street-map view or an aerial photo, clearly showing where you were standing when you pressed the shutter button. At long last, technology has reached a point where we don’t need to write “Eiffel Tower, 1988” on the back of the print as a reminder.

Photo Web sites like Flickr, Picasa and SmugMug can display these maps, too. Certain desktop photo programs, like Photoshop Elements 6, Picasa and (for the Mac) Ovolabs Geophoto.

Now, that’s a pretty interesting trick. But finding out how it’s done is even more interesting.

No, it’s not G.P.S. Even the Eye-Fi people can’t yet shrink a G.P.S. receiver to fit the sliver of an SD card.

Instead, this card incorporates a new technology, a rival to G.P.S., called W.P.S.—Wi-Fi Positioning System. A company called Skyhook came up with it. (Skyhook’s first well-known client was Apple. The original iPhone doesn’t have actual G.P.S., but it does have Skyhook’s “locate me” feature.)



Understanding how Skyhook works requires slogging through some tech talk. But it’s fascinating, and it’s also the key to the Eye-Fi card’s strengths and limitations.

At this moment, more than 70 million Wi-Fi base stations are sitting in homes, offices and shops. Each broadcasts its own name and unique network address (called its MAC address — nothing to do with Mac computers) once a second. Although you’d need to be within 150 feet or so to actually get onto the Internet, according to Skyhook, a laptop can detect this powerful beacon signal from up to 1,500 feet away.

Metropolitan areas today are blanketed by overlapping Wi-Fi signals. At a typical Manhattan intersection, you might be in range of 20 base stations.

Skyhook’s big idea: If you could somehow correlate those beacon signals with their physical locations, you could pinpoint your own location, G.P.S.-style, but without G.P.S..

To that end, 500 full-time Skyhook employees have spent the last five years driving every road, lane and highway in every major American city —and, lately, European and Asian cities. Its equipment measures all those Wi-Fi signals leaking out of homes and stores and offices, and marries that information with the car’s G.P.S. location as it drives.

(Note: At no time does this equipment, or any iPhone or Eye-Fi card, actually connect to these base stations. They’re just reading the one-way beacon signal, which is broadcast even by password-protected base stations.)

So far, Skyhook’s database knows about 50 million hot spots—and the precise longitude and latitude of each.

And that’s it. Now any Wi-Fi gadget equipped with Skyhook’s software, like the iPhone and the new Eye-Fi card, can get a fix on its own position, accurate to around 100 feet.
As a bonus, the Skyhook system is self-healing. Suppose, for example, you’re standing on the street in Brooklyn. Your iPhone recognizes six Wi-Fi base stations around you — but one of them, according to the Skyhook database, is supposed to be in Connecticut.

Clearly, somebody moved (or moved the base station). Skyhook’s software says, “Well, the other five base stations are right where they’re supposed to be, but that sixth one looks suspicious. I’ll update my records to show that it has been moved to Brooklyn.”

Skyhook’s biggest weakness is coverage. The 50 million hot spots it knows, the company says, is enough to cover 70 percent of the populated areas in the United States and Canada, and 50 percent of Europe. But that means that the Eye-Fi card draws a blank in some of the situations when you’d most want a location fix for your photos: hiking, skiing, camping, boating or traveling abroad. These are places where you’re not likely to find any Wi-Fi signals at all.

(If that prospect bothers you, consider the $150 G.P.S. Photo Finder from ATP instead. After taking some photos, you slip your memory card into this tiny box, which stamps each picture with your current G.P.S. location. It’s more trouble than the Eye-Fi system, but at least it’s real G.P.S.)

On the other hand, Skyhook’s biggest strengths are how well it works indoors and how fast it works — one second for a fix. That makes it a perfect complement to G.P.S., which works terribly indoors, if at all, and can take up to a minute to find you.

(Indeed, the new iPhone, coming July 11, incorporates both G.P.S. and Skyhook. It even has a third location system, developed by Google, that pinpoints your location by studying your proximity to cellphone towers. That iPhone will really know where you are.)

Apart from the new geotagging feature, the new Eye-Fi card is the same as its geographically impaired predecessor, which is to say that it has the same downsides. For example, the card sends only JPEG files, not movies or RAW files. You can’t choose which photos to upload; the card always sends everything.

Two traditional Eye-Fi drawbacks, though, have been fixed. Formerly you never knew when the card was finished transmitting photos; now, Eye-Fi can send a text message to your phone when it’s safe to turn off the camera.

Nor are you limited to your own home hot spot anymore. For $15 a year, your card can use any of Wayport’s 10,000 commercial hot spots in the United States, or indeed any hot spot that’s completely open (no password, no welcome screen). The first year is free with the Explore card.



There’s a lot of great technology at play here. The Skyhook network, incomplete though it may be, is just wickedly clever — you can’t believe that it works, let alone works so well, at least in the 8,000 cities it covers.

Skyhook technology is also available in AOL Instant Messenger, so you can see where your chat buddies are; in location-based games like Plunder and AreaCode; and in software like Trapster, which lets drivers report speed traps when they see one — and then Trapster-equipped drivers following behind are warned on their cellphones. There’s even a browser toolbar that lets you try finding yourself: loki.com.

And when the Eye-Fi card’s pictures do arrive on your computer, being able to see where they were taken is more than a novelty. It’s a huge leap forward in the art and the utility of digital photography.

Metropolitan areas today are blanketed by overlapping Wi-Fi signals. At a typical Manhattan intersection, you might be in range of 20 base stations.

Skyhook’s big idea: If you could somehow correlate those beacon signals with their physical locations, you could pinpoint your own location, G.P.S.-style, but without G.P.S..

To that end, 500 full-time Skyhook employees have spent the last five years driving every road, lane and highway in every major American city —and, lately, European and Asian cities. Its equipment measures all those Wi-Fi signals leaking out of homes and stores and offices, and marries that information with the car’s G.P.S. location as it drives.

(Note: At no time does this equipment, or any iPhone or Eye-Fi card, actually connect to these base stations. They’re just reading the one-way beacon signal, which is broadcast even by password-protected base stations.)

So far, Skyhook’s database knows about 50 million hot spots—and the precise longitude and latitude of each.

And that’s it. Now any Wi-Fi gadget equipped with Skyhook’s software, like the iPhone and the new Eye-Fi card, can get a fix on its own position, accurate to around 100 feet.
As a bonus, the Skyhook system is self-healing. Suppose, for example, you’re standing on the street in Brooklyn. Your iPhone recognizes six Wi-Fi base stations around you — but one of them, according to the Skyhook database, is supposed to be in Connecticut.

Clearly, somebody moved (or moved the base station). Skyhook’s software says, “Well, the other five base stations are right where they’re supposed to be, but that sixth one looks suspicious. I’ll update my records to show that it has been moved to Brooklyn.”

Skyhook’s biggest weakness is coverage. The 50 million hot spots it knows, the company says, is enough to cover 70 percent of the populated areas in the United States and Canada, and 50 percent of Europe. But that means that the Eye-Fi card draws a blank in some of the situations when you’d most want a location fix for your photos: hiking, skiing, camping, boating or traveling abroad. These are places where you’re not likely to find any Wi-Fi signals at all.

(If that prospect bothers you, consider the $150 G.P.S. Photo Finder from ATP instead. After taking some photos, you slip your memory card into this tiny box, which stamps each picture with your current G.P.S. location. It’s more trouble than the Eye-Fi system, but at least it’s real G.P.S.)

On the other hand, Skyhook’s biggest strengths are how well it works indoors and how fast it works — one second for a fix. That makes it a perfect complement to G.P.S., which works terribly indoors, if at all, and can take up to a minute to find you.

(Indeed, the new iPhone, coming July 11, incorporates both G.P.S. and Skyhook. It even has a third location system, developed by Google, that pinpoints your location by studying your proximity to cellphone towers. That iPhone will really know where you are.)

Apart from the new geotagging feature, the new Eye-Fi card is the same as its geographically impaired predecessor, which is to say that it has the same downsides. For example, the card sends only JPEG files, not movies or RAW files. You can’t choose which photos to upload; the card always sends everything.

Two traditional Eye-Fi drawbacks, though, have been fixed. Formerly you never knew when the card was finished transmitting photos; now, Eye-Fi can send a text message to your phone when it’s safe to turn off the camera.

Nor are you limited to your own home hot spot anymore. For $15 a year, your card can use any of Wayport’s 10,000 commercial hot spots in the United States, or indeed any hot spot that’s completely open (no password, no welcome screen). The first year is free with the Explore card.



There’s a lot of great technology at play here. The Skyhook network, incomplete though it may be, is just wickedly clever — you can’t believe that it works, let alone works so well, at least in the 8,000 cities it covers.

Skyhook technology is also available in AOL Instant Messenger, so you can see where your chat buddies are; in location-based games like Plunder and AreaCode; and in software like Trapster, which lets drivers report speed traps when they see one — and then Trapster-equipped drivers following behind are warned on their cellphones. There’s even a browser toolbar that lets you try finding yourself: loki.com.

And when the Eye-Fi card’s pictures do arrive on your computer, being able to see where they were taken is more than a novelty. It’s a huge leap forward in the art and the utility of digital photography.

Dell puts PCs on a power diet

Low-power is rapidly becoming the new "extreme" in the world of PCs. In response to rising energy costs and environmental concerns, Dell is putting its computers on a plan to consume less power, with the goal of cutting overall power consumption by 25 percent by 2010, according to Cnet.

The plan applies to both desktops and laptops.

One of the major undertakings is to build ultra-small desktops that require minimal energy. These PCs are even smaller than the "Small Form Factor" (SFF) machines the company currently sells (which are about the size of an unabridged dictionary). The new ultrasmall PCs take up a mere 20 percent of the room of a standard minitower, about half the size of a current-gen SFF.

The new PCs would use only about 30 percent of the power of a standard computer, too.

In the laptop world, power savings has long been a major focus, since battery life is directly correlated with energy consumption. The move to lower-power CPUs, LED screen backlighting, and turning off unused components has been a direct result of such research. Further gains may be harder to come by, with advances from here probably having to take the form of software and firmware enhancements.

In addition to cutting power use in its products, Dell noted that it plans to be carbon-neutral, operations-wise, by the end of the year. Good work, Dell!

Spam turning 30 this month; no gifts, please


The date: May 3, 1978. The culprit: Gary Thuerk, a marketer for the old Digital Equipment Corporation. His crime: Sending a sales e-mail to 393 users on Arpanet (then a U.S. government computer network and the predecessor of today's Internet). Little did Thuerk know that he'd just become the world's first spammer.

That first piece of junk e-mail (which wasn't called "spam" until about 15 years later) has been memorialized over at Brad Templeton's Web site (Templeton is a Net pioneer, the creator of the legendary rec.humor.funny Usenet group, and chairman of the Eletronic Frontier Foundation), along with a thread of outraged replies.

So, without further ado, here you go—the world's first spam (presented in its original all-caps format):

Thuerk's message was first greeted by a stern reprimand from one Major Raymond Czahor, chief administrator of Arpanet, followed by a long discussion thread as Arpanet users—many of whom were wary of censorship on their messaging network—mulled the impact of this first piece of junk e-mail:

"I don't see any place for advertising on the ARPAnet," user Mark Crispin wrote at the time. "Certainly not the bulk advertising of that DEC message. From the address list, it seems clear to me that the people it was sent to were the Californians listed in the last ARPAnet directory. This was a clear and flagrant abuse of the directory! I am not sure as to how far this should be carried though."

For the record, the pioneering spammer told the Wall Street Journal that his ground-breaking e-mail worked, drawing scores of leads and about $12 million in tech sales. Thuerk says he never spammed again, and he reportedly does promos for spam-fighting companies, but he's not spending any time blaming himself for the current spam epidemic. "If the airline loses your luggage do you blame the Wright brothers?" he told the Journal. I'm not sure I get the logic there, but...whatever.

Can HTC's touchscreen Diamond outshine the iPhone?


Just unveiled at a lavish event in London, HTC—maker of the sleek Touch for Sprint—has a new touchscreen gem on its hands, although the aptly-named Touch Diamond arrives in the rough that we call Windows Mobile.
But before I get all grumpy about Microsoft's tricky mobile OS, let's behold the Diamond's sparkling design and touch UI—and from this standpoint, there's a lot to like.

First off, the Diamond comes in a sleek, and relatively light (according to the specs, at least) jet-black shell. Measuring 4 by 2 by 0.45 inches, the Diamond is a little shorter, narrower, and a hair thinner than the iPhone, and at 3.9 ounces, it's almost a full ounce lighter.

Then there's the touchscreen: 2.8 inches diagonally and at full VGA resolution, easily beating the iPhone's 480 by 320-pixel resolution. Whether one can appreciate VGA resolution on a 2.8-inch screen is an open question, although initial reports indicate that the Diamond's display is, indeed, dazzling.

And that brings us to the Diamond's TouchFlo interface—a sleek, easy-to-use touch UI that runs on top of Windows Mobile.

On the Touch for Sprint, TouchFlo looked like a 3D cube that you spun around with your finger. On the Diamond, TouchFlo boasts a row of icons at the bottom of the screen (for functions such as messaging, music, weather, photos, and Web browsing)—tap an icon, and the display spins and twirls to the appropriate application. Nice.

The Diamond also looks good in the spec department: HSDPA for 3.5G Web browsing and downloads, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 4GB of internal memory, a 3.2MP camera, and an accelerometer that turns the display to landscape mode when you turn the Diamond on its side.

For Web browsing, you get Opera for full HTML rendering and zooming in to Web pages, along with a separate YouTube app.

All very enticing, but lurking underneath it all is the professional version of Windows Mobile—and undeniably powerful OS, but tough to use when you're out and about. Indeed, with its intricate menus, the pro version of Windows Mobile is almost impossible to use without a stylus, so let's hope the Diamond has one
Still, Windows Mobile Professional (the new version 6.1) means full compatibility with corporate Exchange servers, along with Microsoft's mobile Office suite (good for composing and editing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents).

So, can the Diamond take on the iPhone? On paper, it certainly wins out thanks to its HSDPA and GPS abilities (although the upcoming 3G iPhone will probably draw even come June). And I like the size and weight of the Diamond, plus the sheer capabilities of Windows Mobile (the iPhone has yet to get a true office suite).

But while the TouchFlo interface looks like a pleasure to use, Windows Mobile itself is a bear without a stylus—and with all its tweakable features and options, it's a tough nut to crack for a novice.

In any event, I'll hold off on any final judgments until I see one in person—which may not be for awhile. The Diamond is set to arrive next month in Europe and Asia, but it won't land here in the U.S. until the second half of the year. No word on pricing yet.

Listening to MP3 Files in Your Car

You can play MP3 files from your home stereo, from your computer, and from a portable player using headphones. But MP3 is still a relative newcomer in the world of car audio.

If your car's audio system doesn't recognize MP3 music discs, consider these less expensive workarounds:

* Use a cassette player adapter. If your car has a cassette player, check out a CD-to-Cassette Player adapter. It looks like a cassette tape with a stereo cable hanging from one end. Plug the cable into your portable MP3 player's headphone jack, insert the cassette, and start listening to your MP3s through your car stereo. It sounds amazingly good - well, at least compared to the road noise.

* Use a wireless FM adapter. Plug the cable from an FM transmitter into your portable MP3 player. Then tune your car's FM radio to the right frequency and listen to your MP3s. Unfortunately, sound quality varies because of local interference, and you're dependent on the batteries that power your wireless adapter.

*

* Buy a car stereo with a CD Input jack. Some car stereos lack a CD player. Instead, they have a CD Input jack. Plug a 1/8-inch stereo cable between this jack and your portable MP3 player to hear MP3s through your car's stereo system.

* Burn MP3 songs onto a CD in audio format. Does your car have a CD player? Then convert your MP3 songs back into standard CD audio format and copy them to a CD. You can't fit more than a dozen onto the CD, but at least you can hear them.

* Connect a portable MP3 player to amplified speakers. Take some amplified speakers - like the ones that come with your PC - and plug a portable MP3 player into them. Carry it all to your car and start listening. To change songs, just swap new cards in and out of the portable player.
