Promoting Your Blog For Increase
By Biz Stone
In chess, promotion occurs when a pawn reaches the eighth square. At that point, your opponent is challenged because this simple pawn takes on all the powers of a Queen, the deadliest piece on the board. Of course, the pawn may be promoted to bishop, rook, or any other piece but why? This only clues the other player in to your secret plans. That being said, however, promotions to knight can often be strategically useful depending on the situation.
What the beelzebub am I talking about? Let's not get too lost in metaphor. Suffice to say, the circuitous game of promoting one's blog in the blogosphere (without the proper armament) can often seem as difficult and unrewarding as a day-long chess match that ends in a draw. If you play your game right, however, that pawn can hit the big time. Ideally, the simple act of blogging in and of itself would attract enough traffic to please the author but there are cases in which more is better. Whether you are participating in AdSense for Bloggers and would like to see a spike in your profits, or you just want more comments on your posts, increasing hit-count is beneficial.
Toward that end, I spent my Labour Day snooping around the blogosphere. While I should have been eating potato salad and lounging by someone's pool, I was slaving over my laptop pulling together a bevy of accepted methods for growing the readership base of your blog. I hope you will find them useful. In practice, the procedures fall into three basic categories involving settings, techniques, and actual marketing tricks. Some are very obvious and others, more subtle. It appears that many bloggers have found success with these solutions. I have tried a few and found that they do in fact increase traffic.
Blogger Application Settings
Blogger itself has an array of settings, many of which work to your advantage in this endeavor. This first grouping is quite simple and just requires that you sign in to your Blogger account and flip a few switches.
Set your blog to ping weblogs.com. Weblogs.com is a blog update notification service that many individuals and services use to track blog changes. When this setting is activated, Blogger will notify weblogs.com that you have updated your blog. That means your blog will be included in various "recently updated" lists on the web as well as other blog-related services.
Activate Your Navbar. I did this and watched my traffic go up on the very first day (and continue to climb). The Blogger Navbar replaced mandatory ads a few weeks ago. One of the features on the Navbar is a button called NextBlogclick it to visit the next Navbar-enabled blog. It turns out this couch-potato like way of flipping through blogs is very appealing. As a result, the next blog button gets a lot of attention. So turn your Navbar on and catch some of that wave.
Install Email This Post. News sites like The New York Times Online have had a feature like this for years, it allows people to simply forward an article to a friend via email. If you use Email This Post on your blog, people will be able to forward your posts to friends. This may not have an immediate impact on your site stats but it enables others to publicize your blog for you. That is good stuff.
Turn on Post Pages. If you are still only archiving by day, week, or month you are living in the past man. You have got to make sure you are publishing every post as its very own web page with Post Pages. That makes your entries way more link-able and more attractive to search engines. Links to your blog means traffic to your blog. This is an easy setting in Blogger.
Turn on your site feed. When people subscribe to your site feed in their newsreaders, it means they are definitely going to read your post. The folks who subscribe to site feeds are the type of people Malcolm Gladwell calls "mavens" in his book, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference. Long story short: these people will help you get more traffic so turn on your site feed.
Add your blog to Blogger's listings. This is a really obvious one but at some point during the blog creation process there is a chance many of you initially thought "Oh, I am not sure I want to be public just yet. I will mark that as 'no.'" Go back in there and mark it "yes." When you add your blog to our listings then it shows up in Nextblog, Recently Updated, and other places. It is like opting-in to traffic. Do it.
Blogging Technique Suggestions
This part of the traffic-grabbing techniques is a little more persnickety and not as readily activated. The basic gist of this section of methods is "If you build it well they will come." You will need to incorporate the other aspects of self-promotion, but it is true that writing a great blog goes a long way towards repeat visitors and word of mouth blog.
Write quality content and do it well. Jen Garrett demands that you use proper punctuation, capitalise letters when appropriate, and do not overuse the ellipsis. She is being a bit of a grammar bitch, but she has a point. If your "style" is bad writing, worse grammar, no punctuation, and an ugly design, that might be okay for a niche crowd. But the idea here is to get a big crowd so fix yourself up a bit, pull it together man, have some respect for your readers, and discover a style that shines brightly through good blogging.
Publish regular updates. Danah Boyd once told me that she intentionally wanted to lower the traffic to her blog and she found the easiest way to do it was to stop posting so frequently. (Danah is an odd one, that is why we love her.) The reverse of her experiment is also true: the more you blog, the more traffic you will get. You have got to think about it like watering a plant; do it every day and the plant will grow. Hopefully your blog is not like the plant in The Little Shop of Horrors. That would be bad.
Think of your audience. A good way to build an audience is to cultivate one. When you keep your audience in mind, you are focusing your writing. This helps you develop a stronger voice and is instrumental in creating the brand that is you as put forth through your blog. Again, this is more of an overarching, long-term technique for building traffic and will not have immediate results. Nevertheless, focus goes a long way toward repeat visitors.
Keep search engines in mind. Note that sometimes your "audience" is whoever stumbles into your site from a web search. Search is a great way to bring in new visitors and there are a few things you can do to make your blog more search engine friendly. Use post titles and blog page title tags along with your post page archiving. This will automatically give each of your post pages an intelligent name based on the title of your post. Also, try to be descriptive when you blog. A well crafted post about something very specific can end up very near the top results of a search. For example, a Google search for "Book Cover Design" features this blog post by the illustrious Jason Kottke complete with reader comments.
Keep your posts and paragraphs short. Note the brevity of the aforementioned Kottke post. People will come back daily to read your fresh new work but spare them the one thousand word diatribes. Strive for succinct posts that pump pertinent new information into the blogosphere and move on. Keep it short and sweet so visitors can pop in, read up, and click on. Think of you blog as a cumulative effect. This does not mean you should never practice some long form writing now and then; it is just something to keep in mind.
Marketing Action Items
The third and final group of promotional techniques are simple actions you can take to publicise your blog. This category is theoretically unlimited. You could build your own blimp and spell out your blogspot subdomain in twinkly holiday lights across the side, that sort of thing. Instead, I have limited these suggestions to more obvious, grounded tactics. (If you do got the blimp route, please: use helium, not hydrogen.)
Put your blog URL in your email signature. Whenever I see a blog url in an email signature, I always click on it to see who I am dealing with. Especially if it is someone I have never met. Email gets forwarded all the time so even if you only send out five notes a day to friends, the potential number of people clicking over to your blog is in the thousands. (That is of course completely theoretical, but you get my drift; it is worth it.) I cannot give you specific instructions on how to edit your email client's signature because I do not know which one you use, but poke around. It is somewhere in the settings.
Sumbit your address to blog search sites and directories. People look for blog content at Technorati every day, are you on their list? You should be. Submit your blog's url to Technorati, Daypop, Blogdex, Popdex, and any other site of that ilk you come across. With the exception of Technorati, many of these sites are hobby or graduate student projects but they continue to gain visitors looking for interesting blogs to read, bookmark, and revisit. Not all of them have the power to crawl ever blog in existence so you can help them help you by dropping your url in the appropriate field.
Participate in meme games. A meme is an idea transmitted from person to person like a virus. If the flu was a blog, it would get crazy traffic. With all the sickness and disease analogies, blog induced memes are actually fun and can win you some extra traffic. How do they work? Basically a blogger will propose an idea like "Hey, let's post the first sentence of our favourite book!" and it will catch on like crazy with people linking to each other's submissions obsessively until the game dies down. A favourite meme for years was the Friday Five, if you are looking for something new, try The Daily Meme.
Advertise. If keyword advertising were affordable enough, I would say go for it. For now, free is a good way to go. BlogSnob is a network of free, text-based blog advertisers that you can join right now. Host ads, place ads, it is all traffic. BlogSnob ads blend right into your site and are fully customisable. Bloggers who join the network can place free ads, while sometime in the near future real advertisers will have to dish out to get noticed. It pays to be a blogger.
Link to other blogs. This is a great way to get traffic. Here is what happens when you link to another blogger: she sees you in her referral logs, checks out your blog, and then very likely links back to you or at the very least makes a mental note to do so. Links are the currency of the blogosphere and it takes money to make money so start linking. Don't be shy folks; it is not actually cash. Not yet anyway: who knows what bloggers will come up with.
Install a blogroll. This is similar to linking. Well actually, it is the same but different. Blog posts eventually drop off the front page and get archived. A blogroll is more of personal statement: these are the bloggers I like. Or, this is the crowd I'd like to be associated with. It's a very simple yet effective social networking scheme and it has the same result as a simple link if not stronger: traffic! So if you don't have one yet, sign up for a blogroll and get that link-list going.
Be an active commenter. Try to leave comments on the blogs you read every day. This is in the same vein as linking. Leaving a comment on someone's post can make their day. Nothing beats getting those email notifications that whisper tacitly out at you from the screen, "You're thoughts have struck me dead in my tracks. I simply must acknowledge you and your greatness." (Or something to that effect.) Most comment systems also provide a way for you to leave a link back to your blog which begs a visit at the very least. So if you feel inspired, leave a comment or two in your blog travels. It behooves you.
Pitch your posts via email to other bloggers. This is a touchy technique and should be approached with caution. Blogger Eugene Volokh has published a short treatise on how best to pitch one's blog via email and it's filled with great tips and advice. Assuming your blog is actually worth pitching (of course it is), here are some tips from Volokh.
- Pitch the post, not the blog.
- Include the full text and your URL.
- Submit only your best posts.
- Don't only pitch to high traffic blogs.
Print your blog URL on cards, stickers, etc. Basically, if you plan to have anything printed up, put your blog on it. These days, more and more business cards have blog addresses listed on them along with email and phone number. I wouldn't be surprised if I started seeing bumper stickers with blogspot addresses on them soon. There's a lot of traffic on the 101, that bumper in front of me is prime advertising real estate.
Speaking of the 101, maybe you've spotted the giant orange SUV with the license plate that says BLOGGER while driving south towards San Jose? No, that's not Evan Williams as you would suspect. It is, however, a nice piece of creative publicity. If there's one thing we've learned from my Labour Day investigation of blog promotion it's this: Don't be that guy with the BLOGGER license plate but think like him. That's the kind of take-charge technique you should open your game with. That's how you can turn your pawn into royalty.

Promoting Your Blog For Increase
Memory Mitsubishi Lancer
Mitsubishi Lancer
The Mitsubishi Lancer is a compact automobile built by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. It has been sold in various countries as the Colt Lancer, Dodge/Plymouth Colt, Chrysler Valiant Lancer, Chrysler Lancer, Eagle Summit, Hindustan Lancer, Mitsubishi Carisma, and Mitsubishi Mirage, and formed the basis of numerous Proton models in Malaysia.
1973
The Lancer (LA series in Australia, where it was called the Chrysler Valiant Lancer initially) was first launched in 1973 and proved to be particularly successful in rallies, a claim that it retains today. At the time of its launch, Mitsubishi had its keicar, the Minica, and the mid-size Galant, so it made sense to have a compact to fill the gap in the growing Japanese concern. Twelve models were launched, ranging from a 1200 cm³ basic sedan to the powerful 1600 GSR model.
Celeste
In 1975, the Lancer was complemented by an attractive hatchback coupé called the Mitsubishi Lancer Celeste (plain Mitsubishi Celeste or Colt Celeste in some markets; it was the Chrysler Lancer Coupé in Australia and the Plymouth Arrow in the United States), and sold with 1400 and 1600 cm³ options. The exterior design was reminiscent of the Renault 17. (It was not renewed within the Lancer range, its role taken over in 1982 by the Mitsubishi Cordia coupé.)
Facelift and exports
A facelifted Lancer followed soon after, called the LB series in Australia (and without the Valiant tag). It was this series that emerged in the United States as the Dodge Colt for the 1977 model year, taking over from a badge-engineered Mitsubishi Galant from the previous year. It was offered for one more model year before the Dodge Colt name was transferred to the front wheel drive Mitsubishi Mirage.
1979
In 1979, the new Lancer EX (the EX tag was not used for all export markets) débuted. The EX series included, from 1980, a turbocharged 1800 cm³ model. Stylistically, the boxy, angular look replaced the "coke bottle" of the LAs and LBs.
Lancer Fiore
In 1982, a confusing new model was launched called the Lancer Fiore, based on the Mitsubishi Mirage. The Fiore was often sold as a Lancer in international markets, but also the Mirage Sedan and, with the five-door hatchback model, remained in production for a good part of the 1980s. In Australia, it would eventually be sold as the Mitsubishi Colt Sedan. Thus, Mitsubishi had two similarly sized models competing in the same market segment.
1983
The following year, both Mirage and Lancer lines were renewed. The Mirage four-door and Lancer sedan became the same car. Fuel injected and turbocharged models were an integral part of this range. A station wagon was added in 1985, and it spawned a raised, four wheel drive version. Often, the Mirage (or Colt) would be the name used on the three-door hatchback, and the Lancer name used on the remainder. This model formed the basis of the original Proton sedan, Malaysia's first car.
1987
In 1987, a more aerodynamic-looking Lancer was launched, following the shape of the successful Galant. A five-door hatchback was added to the range. The Mirage and Lancer nomenclature continued. The station wagon continued on the old platform and shape, as did, in some markets, a five-door version of the Mirage. In Australia, all models were sold as the Mitsubishi Lancer. By that time, the Lancer name was shared with the Dodge Lancer sold in North America.
1992
It was only in 1992 that there was greater differentiation between the Mirage and Lancer. Although both were on the same platform, the Mirage four-door received different sheetmetal from the Lancer sedan. The Mirage variant was sold in North America under the Eagle Summit name. Minivan models, such as the Mitsubishi Space Runner and Mitsubishi Chariot, were mechanically related. In 1993, the Lancer wagon, named the Libero in Japan, was launched. A V6 variant was also introduced, with only 1.6L, making it the smallest production V6 ever. The hi-performance, sporty, and turbocharged GSR version formed the basis of the popular Lancer Evolution (or 'Evo') from September 1993, using the drivetrain of the successful Galant VR-4 rally car, which is 4WD.
The Mirage Asti Coupé in Japan was offered as the Lancer Coupé in many export markets.
1995
In 1995, the Lancer was renewed for its seventh generation, building on the earlier model's format. Apart from the Evo models' continuation, it did not depart from the established Lancer formula. A sedan and wagon (Libero in Japan) were offered, with a related Mirage model. The coupé continued as the Mirage Asti in Japan, Lancer Coupé elsewhere.
2000
The year 2000 saw the release of the eighth-generation Lancer Cedia, though in some markets the seventh generation Lancer continued (becoming increasingly uncompetitive), built at Mitsubishi's Thai plant. The new model was available in sedan and station wagon forms. The Mirage, apart from the export models, became a different car in Japan that was unrelated to the Lancer. In Europe, the Lancer was not offered in some countries, being too close to the size of the Dutch-built Carisma, so the Evo VII model sold there bore the Carisma name.
For North America, facelifts for the Lancer Cedia (known simply as Lancer in the US) occurred in the 2004, 2005, and 2006 model years. In 2004, the front facia was changed and brought it into line with the Mitsubishi corporate look. In 2005, the grille was changed to include more fins to reflect a closer similarity to the North American Galant. For 2006, the facia was changed again from a bridged facia to one with an open vent after Mitsubishi received complaints from current owners regarding its similarity in appearance to General Motors Division Pontiac's corporate look, and to bring the appearance closer to its bigger brother, the Evolution. As of 2006, the Mitsubishi Lancer wagon is now exclusively sold in Canada.
Thai production was switched to the new model, and in all markets but India, the seventh-generation model was finally laid to rest, four years after the Cedia's introduction. India will receive a new Lancer in 2006.
North America received two additional models to the Lancer line in 2004. The Lancer Cedia station wagon was introduced as the Lancer Sportback, and the Lancer Ralliart, a high level equipment package for the sedan that allowed the car was also introduced. Both of these cars came equipped with Mitsubishi's 4G69 engine (rated at 160HP/162FT-LB for the Sportback, and 162HP/162FT-LB for the Ralliart), included a new, stiffer suspension package that improved handling and lowered the cars stance by 1 centimeter, 16" alloy wheels, front bucket seats borrowed from Japan's Mitsubishi Evolution GT-A, Fog Lamps, and a new aerodynamic ground package. The Ralliart also came equipped with a cosmetic rear deck spoiler, and clear rear tail lights. The Sportback was equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission, with no option for a manual transmission, while the Ralliart came with a 5-speed manual transmission with an option for the 4-speed automatic. Due to Mitsubishi's deteriorating financial situation and slow sales, the Lancer Sportback wagon was cancelled one year after its release.
In some European markets, the Lancer began to take the place of the Carisma in 2004.
Memory Mitsubishi Lancer
The History of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolu-tion
From the beginning, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution existed solely to succeed in the World Rally Championship, and the production car was simply a byproduct of homologation rules. The Evolution series has been true to its name, representing a methodical motorsport development process that has brought about some truly awe-inspiring street cars with a cult-like notoriety.
Evolution I
Chassis Code CD9A
Flush with success from its Galant VR-4 and hungry for WRC victory, Mitsubishi determined in 1990 that further success would require a new platform. To that end, Mitsubishi engineers started with VR-4's proven drivetrain and shoehorned it into the lighter, smaller Lancer chassis and the Evolution I was born.
However, competition in WRC's Group A required the homologation of 2,500 production models. No problem. Offered in GSR and RS flavors, 5,000 EVO Is were snapped up between September 1992 and December 1993. Mitsubishi's intent behind the lightweight RS model was to provide a good starting point for building a club-level rally car. So why include parts that will be tossed later? With that philosophy in mind, RS models were sold with steel wheels, manual windows, and cheap seats. ABS was not offered on RS models, nor was a rear wiper. The GSR, intended to serve street-car duty, included power windows, air conditioning, Recaro seats, alloy wheels and carpets, helping to bring the GSR's total weight to 2,730 pounds, 155 pounds more than the RS. Keep in mind the Japanese weigh their cars with no fuel, spare, or jack, so make a mental conversion over to American-style curb weights. Throughout the EVO's life, motivation was provided by the VR-4's stout iron-blocked turbocharged 2.0-liter DOHC 4G63 engine. EVO I got a lighter crankshaft, higher compression pistons, new connecting rods, plus a new port geometry, bringing output to 228 lb-ft at 3000 rpm and 247 hp at 6000 rpm; 10 more than the VR-4. The VR-4's established AWD drivetrain and five-speed W5M33 gearbox, with a double-cone synchro added to second gear, were carried over. The EVO's suspension consisted of MacPherson front struts and a multi-link rear, with pillow-ball mounts replacing the base Lancer's rubber bushings in the control arms and toe-control links. The lowly Lancer chassis was beefed up to cope with the rigors of rally use, giving a 20-percent increase in torsional rigidity. Extra beef equals weight, so undercoating was removed on all Evolution RS models through EVO V. Evolution II The Lancer Evolution II, built from December 1993 to January 1995, was focused primarily on improving the handling of the EVO I. Though the same fundamental chassis was used in Evolutions I-III, EVO II brought a 10mm increase in wheelbase accomplished by moving the front wheels forward. Vehicle track was increased at both ends to accommodate larger tires (now 205/60-15; up from 195/55-15), while longer control arms in front and a revised swaybar mounting arrangement enhanced steering response. Aerodynamic tweaks like a front air dam and an additional rear spoiler support improved vehicle stability at higher speeds. Mitsubishi intended to improve power output with each Evolution, and EVO II started the trend. Boost pressure was increased, higher-lift cams were fitted, and detail changes to the exhaust reduced backpressure. Power of the 4G63 was now up to 256 hp, while torque remained unchanged at 228 lb-ft, propelling a vehicle weight of 2,750 pounds for GSR models and 2,600 pounds for RS models. Evolution III Speeds on tarmac stages were getting higher, so reducing lift and improving cooling performance became priorities in Evolution III. A larger rear wing, a front airdam with brake cooling vents, and rocker panel extensions were fitted and, you guessed it, power was up again. Ongoing improvements to the engine's breathing were rendering the existing turbo, a TD05H-16G-7, a liability compressor efficiency was taking a dump at higher engine speeds, adversely impacting volumetric efficiency. So Mitsubishi swapped the old 60mm 16G compressor wheel for a more suitably sized 68mm 16G6 wheel and redesigned the exhaust again for less backpressure. With these new lungs and another bump in compression ratio to 9.0:1, power crept to 266 hp at 6250 rpm, while torque stayed at 228 lb-ft. Selling 7,000 examples from January 1995 to August 1996, Evolution III was the best-selling EVO to date. Evolution IV The initial production run of 6,000 EVO IVs sold out in three days. EVO mania had hit full force. This latest EVO, introduced in August 1996, was based on an entirely new Lancer platform and had a technology portfolio as long as your arm. A new twin-scroll turbo kept exhaust pulse energy high all the way to the turbine wheel, improving boost response so effectively that the size of the turbine housing was stepped up (from 7 cm2 to 9 cm2). Coupled with a new cam grind, the larger turbine housing promoted better volumetric efficiency at higher engine speeds, while the twin-scroll took care of the low end. To homologate a new anti-lag system, all production models were sold with the anti-lag air injection hardware on the exhaust manifold. With no software to control it, however, street drivers were prevented from shooting anti-lag-induced fireballs out the tailpipe during gear changes. Compression ratio was back down to 8.8:1, thanks to new, lighter pistons, and a new metal head gasket kept combustion pressures where they belonged. Output was now 276 hp at 6500 rpm, while peak torque leaped to 260 lb-ft at 3000 rpm. Mitsubishi was also forging new production-car territory with its inclusion of Active Yaw Control (AYC), which adjusted rear torque split to minimize understeer and improve turn-in, and, on RS models, a torque-sensing helical limited-slip front differential. As if that weren't enough, buyers were offered a super-close ratio gearbox in addition to the standard five-speed, plus a choice of final drive ratios. One downside of the new, stiffer chassis and drivetrain goodies was a vehicle weight increase of nearly 200 pounds, with the car now tipping the scales at 2,970 pounds. Clearly, Mitsubishi was barring no holds in the street adaptation of its rally car. The EVO was highly competitive in WRC and was earning a well-deserved cult following in the rest of the world, while American enthusiasts remained largely ignorant of the World Rally Championship and the fire-breathing offspring it produced. Evolution V WRC classes were also evolving and by 1997 a new class, creatively named "World Rally Car" class, had emerged. WRC class cars had to abide by Group A rules, but did not require homologation, giving them a more serious purpose-built flavor. Still confident in the efficacy of its Evolution platform, Mitsubishi opted to continue competing in Group A and introduced the Evolution V in January of 1998. To remain competitive against the WRC class cars, especially in tarmac trim, all areas of the EVO received attention. Vehicle track was increased 40mm in front and 35mm in the rear, with new fender flares and 17-inch wheels to fill them out. Suspension geometry was reconfigured for more travel and lower roll center, and inverted struts were fitted to the front. Both ends of the car got larger brakes. The twin-scroll turbine housing was biggie-sized to 10.5 cm2, and the 4G63's cylinder bore was increased 0.3mm for improved piston-ring sealing characteristics. At 1998.6cc, total displacement remained below 2.0 liters as per class rules. Peak torque jumped to 275 lb-ft at 3000 rpm. Claimed power remained at 276 hp, an artifact of the Japanese "gentlemen's agreement" of capping peak power quotes, rather than a true reflection of the 4G63's urge in its then-current guise. It's safe to say that the engine was making something over 280 hp at this point. Despite the changes, total weight increased only 22 pounds over the EVO IV. With an aggressive new rear wing, larger hood vents for improving radiator airflow, a deeper front chin spoiler, and enormous cooling vents in the bumper, the EVO V looked like a rolling street fight. Evolution VI Further improvements to cooling performance and engine durability were the main focus of 1999's Evolution VI. A new coolant routing path reduced water pump cavitation, and shrunken fog lamps meant even larger openings in the bumper were possible, and the license plate was offset to the driver's side to get out of the way of cooling airflow. New pistons with cooling channels cast in the underside were installed, and a larger oil cooler was fitted, as was a larger intercooler. Though Mitsubishi did not claim an increase in engine output for Evolution VI, its power delivery improved in RS by using a titanium-aluminide turbine wheel, a world's first in a production car. With lower density than a traditional Inconel turbine wheel, this intermetallic alloy reduced rotational inertia, improving boost response. However, titanium-aluminide is more brittle than Inconel, and to avoid potential durability problems the titanium-aluminide turbo was not available in the street-biased GSR model. Chassis stiffness was increased further still with the addition of 130 spot welds, strategic reinforcements, and the use of structural adhesive. New regulations limiting the size of aerodynamic enhancements meant yet another new rear wing for the Evolution. To make up for the lost wing area, Mitsubishi simply added a second tier. Another trim level was introduced, RS2, combining the RS-only hardware specification with a modicum of the GSR's niceties. By this time, American enthusiasts were fully clued into the EVO's overseas presence, and their pleas for a U.S.-spec car were being given consideration. Evolution VII In 2001, the Evolution VII was introduced. And the Evolution series as a Group A homologation model was dead. For the first time, Mitsubishi would be competing in WRC class, which does not require the sale of homologation vehicles to the public. Evolution VII was based on Mitsubishi's newer Lancer Cedia platform, one size larger than the previous platform, to the chagrin of some hard-core EVO fans. What little it gave up in pure straight-line urge to the lighter EVO VI it made up for with chassis wizardry. Most significant was the introduction of an active center differential (ACD), an all-new electro-hydraulically controlled multiplate clutch-type limited-slip differential with three times the binding capacity (783 lb-ft compared to 221 lb-ft) of the viscous unit used in the EVO VI. Active Yaw Control (AYC) still regulated torque split in the rear differential, while a torque-sensing helical limited-slip was fitted to the front. With input from a host of sensors, ACD and AYC were both regulated by a single dedicated control unit. Together, ACD and AYC improved turn-in and reduced understeer more seamlessly, allowing controlled tail-out hooliganism and scalpel-sharp steering response. Structural reinforcements to the donor Cedia chassis increased flexural rigidity by 50 percent by adding thicker sheetmetal and bracing in high-load regions, seam-welding in the B-pillars and front chassis section, and more than 200 additional spot welds in the door apertures. Weight-saving measures like thinner glass, forged aluminum suspension pieces, aluminum front fenders, thinner sheetmetal in the roof panel, a magnesium cam cover, and hollow camshafts kept the total vehicle weight increase to about 90 pounds over the EVO VI. At 276 hp, quoted power remained unchanged though peak torque increased to 283 lb-ft, this time by way of reworked intake ports, a less-restrictive intake manifold, and a smaller twin-scroll turbine housing (reduced from 10.5 to 9.8 cm2). Paired with a 20mm larger intercooler and a lower-backpressure exhaust, the sauce was spread over a broader range of engine speeds than ever before. Overall, the VII was an even more potent performer-if a more civilized one-than the VI. The Lancer Evolution series' overwhelming success extends a big middle finger to the focus groups and consumer clinics of the traditional mainstream, lukewarm, carry-your-golf-clubs-in-the-trunk sissy pants approach to car building, and smacks misty-eyed retromobiles upside the head. Prodigious performance envelope aside, that's reason enough to respect it. source : http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com

How can I make my blog load faster?
The speed at which your blog loads is critical to attracting more readers to your blog. If your blog takes a long time to load, many readers may leave your blog before they have the chance to read it. Here are a few tips and tricks that will help your blog load faster and attract more users:
Posts
Your blog's load time can be affected by the number of posts you display on your main page. You can easily edit the number of posts displayed of the main page from the Settings | Formatting tab. You can then select the number of posts you want to display on the main page. We recommend displaying 10 or fewer posts on the main page.
Third Party JavaScript and Links
For optimal blog load speed, we recommend using Google/Blogger widgets, JavaScipt and links. However, if you need to use third party JavaScipt and links, your blog will load much faster if you put all JavaScript at the bottom of your blog. If you have third party JavaScript and links in your sidebar, put them in at the bottom of the sidebar.
Images and Media
The more images, videos and other multi-media you have on your blog the longer it will take to load. However, images and other multimedia are important to attracting users to your blog, so it is important to optimize the load speed of your images and media. Here are a few tips to increase the load speed of your media:
- Decrease the size of your images or use thumbnails that link to the full-size image.
- If you use third party images, consider uploading them to Picasa Web Albums via the Blogger post editor.
- If you have a large number of images to display, you can upload all your images (from a vacation or event) to a Picasa Web Album and link to the album in your post or sidebar.
Other suggestions
- If you've added any custom CSS to your blog, make sure you put it at the top of the page.
- The most important content of your blog that catches readers attention should load the quickest. To help you identify which items are taking the longest to load you can use Stopwatch. To use Stopwatch, enter your blog's URL into the text box and click "Start StopWatch". Stopwatch will then open your blog in a frame and will record the time it takes for everything on your blog to load, including images, videos, widgets, etc. Take note of the items that take the longest to load and modify them appropriately using our suggestions.
